From Humble Beginnings.....
As we have all heard Australia needs more health workers in rural and remote areas with the push to create a patient centred multidisciplinary approach. Put simply, we need more people in the bush and its best if they get on well…
HOPE4HEALTH students from Griffith University decided to do their bit to get health students from the coast to head west by bringing back the iconic Bachelors and Spinsters (B&S) ball. With all proceeds from the event going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service the Midnight Muster is doing its bit for rural Australia!
The inaugural event was first held in 2008 and saw nearly 200 medical, nursing, dentistry and allied health students from SE Queensland converge at the beautiful Beaudesert Race Club. In true B&S style the ball goers set up camp in the grass car park before being treated to some great catering from the Beaudesert Scouts. Not long after the live band kicked in and everyone partied on into the night for what turned out to be one of the most memorable nights of the year.
Based on the success of the 2008 event, the MIdnight Muster was back even bigger and better in 2009 with the numbers jumping to nearly 300! The 2009 Midnight Muster was held on Saturday 14th March at Beaudesert Race Club. The theme was "Old Macdonald", there were some very creative interpretations and some very elaborate costumes. A great time was had by all.
