Red Party Gold Coast

The RED Party is an annual event that raises money and awareness for HIV/AIDs. The RED Party was an initiative that was started by Medical Students at the University of Western Australia and proved to be so successful that it has been adopted by student organizations across Australia.

Last year, almost FJD$5000 was raised for FJN+ which allowed the completion of housing for women who are HIV positive. The house was built by HIV positive members as a working project and then became a half-way house for women in the community who needed shelter due to the stigma and discrimination they experienced because of their diagnosis. It was opened in December 2008 by the Minister of Health.

Because of limited space in the house, FJN+ would like to in the future build an extension so that men diagnosed with HIV can live there as well.

The RED PARTY 2009 will raise money again for FJN+ to help make this goal a reality.

In the near future, there will be accommodation for HIV positive men and women who are discriminated against by their families and communities because of their HIV status. Something that was not previously available.

The 2009 RED Party was held on Friday 4th September at Melbas Nightclub.

Stay tuned for photos and total funds raised from the night!
