HOPE4HEALTH (H4H) is planning to provide financial assistance for up to four 4th year Griffith University (GU) medicalstudents to meet their elective travel costs, as well as provide a contribution for funding of medical equipment or aid needed by the community they Plan to visit. Up to four Developing Community Grants will be offered in 2010 worth up to $1000 each.
Each grant will consist of $500 towards the student’s expenses (travel, accommodation, vaccinations etc) plus up to $500,which will be provided to the community for the purchase of medical equipment or other aid.
This donation to the community must be used for a purpose that supports the needs of the hospital or clinic where the elective will be undertaken. For example, it could be used for medical supplies, medical/surgical equipment, medical texts and other educational tools, or to support a specific program. Another option for the $500 is for transport of goods the student has already received as donations from the local medical community.
The medical equipment or other aid can be purchased prior to the student’s departure with the assistance of H4H or canbe purchased directly by the community via their usual operating procedures as long as an invoice for the donated aid can be sent to H4H for transfer of the funds.
