RDAQ Conference Academic Prize

In 2015 Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) will continue the opportunity for medical students to be recognized for their commitment to rural communities via the presentation of an RDAQ academic prize.

The overall winner of the RDAQ Academic Award will receive:

RDAQ Conference registration in the year following the award (this is not transferable), a presentation plaque, a bursary of $500 towards travel and accommodation expenses to attend the RDAQ conference in the following year. There will be 1 overall award for the winner of the academic prize. However, each medical student presenting at the RDAQ conference will receive a certificate recognizing his or her contribution and achievement.

Criteria 

Applicants must be available to attend RDAQ conference to present their paper in the year of application

1. The applicant will have identified a case study which they have seen or been involved in with the supervision of a rural clinician in keeping with the theme of the current year’s conference. The supervising clinician would not necessarily have to assist with preparation of the case report but would be able to suggest appropriate cases

2. The applicant will have identified and discussed the rural issues surrounding the case study (either clinical or contextual) with the case having relevance to the practice of rural medicine and the health of rural communities

3. The applicant will have reflected on what they’ve learnt in rural and remote medicine from this case study and how that issue was addressed for professional development purposes

4. The case report will be inclusive of a discussion and literature review succinct in the guidelines (500 -1000 words) review according to the clinical or contextual issue identified as being of relevance.

5. Each application will be in the format of a case report with length of 500 - 1000 words. A 25% leeway on length of submitted report excluding references and appendices will be adopted. An attached PowerPoint along with the case report would be beneficial to review the underlying case
